The Indian Government issues a variety of schemes for public welfare, which include schemes for farmer welfare, urban development, girl-child education, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises development, minority upliftment, food security, and digitization, to list a few. These schemes are announced at various levels, that is, at a Pan India level, state level, central level, or as a state-center Cooperation. These government schemes have proven to be pioneering in the case of developing countries and have been an essential element of modern-day socialist democracies.

The Sukanya Sammriddhi Yojna, or the SSY, is a scheme offered by the Central Government of India that intends to work in the direction of the betterment of the ‘Girl Child.’ The Scheme allows the parents of eligible girls to open a savings account for the long-term benefit of their child/children. The Savings Account under this scheme offers an attractive 7.6% interest rate. This account can be opened under the name of a girl child anytime before she reaches the age of 10. The Scheme also offers tax benefits on the deposits that are made into the SSY account. The aggregate of this account can be withdrawn when the girl reaches the age of 21 or when she gets married. However, withdrawals from this account can also be made earlier with minimal or no penalties.
The Sukanya Sammriddhi Yojna savings account can be opened in post offices and accredited bank branches.
